Indian Ethnic Wear Canada: Your 2026 Style Guide

Indian Ethnic Wear Canada: Your 2026 Style Guide - Lucknow Threads

Indian ethnic wear in Canada can mean anything from a daily kurti to a wedding outfit. This guide covers the everyday pieces we make at Lucknow Threads and how to wear them across Canadian seasons.

What we make

  • Kurtis and kurtas, $40–$75: the most useful piece. Wear with jeans, trousers or plazos.
  • Co-ord sets, $50–$120: a matching kurta and bottom for work, dinners and festive events.
  • Dupattas and plazos, $30–$45: chiffon dupattas with muqaish kamdani and embroidered plazos to finish an outfit.

Everything is hand-embroidered chikankari from Lucknow, and prices are in CAD.

Dressing for Canadian seasons

  • Summer: cotton and modal cotton keep you cool in humid weather.
  • Spring and fall: rayon co-ord sets with a light layer, such as a blazer or cardigan.
  • Winter events: Chanderi silk sets under a long coat, with boots instead of sandals.

Our fabric guide compares the fabrics in detail.

Occasions

  • Work: a solid rayon or modal cotton kurti with trousers. See chikankari for work.
  • Festivals such as Diwali and Eid: a Zoya or Ziva set with a chiffon dupatta.
  • Weddings: a Chanderi silk set. See wedding guest kurtis.
  • Gifting: see our gift guide.
